Herreshoff
18' Newport Launch

Journey
Journey of Herreshoff
This launch was originally built in 1928 towards the end of Nathanial Herreshoff storied carrier. Constructed to Accompany 'Enterprise' for the 1930 America's Cup and commissioned by the NYYC. "Evensong", was originally designed for a steam engine but we cannot say for sure if that was the first form of propulsion or if this boat was one of the first gasoline powered vessels. Restored by IYRS in 2007 and upgraded to electric by NovaLuxe Yacht. She won the Gussies for best electric re-fit of 2025.
Nova Luxe Yachts was contracted for the electric refit. Requirement was similar power with enough runtime to operate all day. Above all else the customer wanted reliability, which is exactly where electric shines! We installed a 4kw WaterWorld inboard motor and a single 6.8kwh battery. The 12v battery was replaced with a step-down transformer and the existing electronics of which it has very little was left in place. The Aesthetic of the boat was extremely important and the new age display was hidden behind mahogany and the throttle was modified to match original aesthetics.
